What a high or low reading means
Propane is the dominant U.S. heating fuel outside natural-gas networks and a large export product. A high seasonal reading means winter heating demand can be served from comfortable stocks, capping propane and petrochemical feedstock prices. A low reading ahead of winter tightens the market. The early-2021 cold snap, when propane stocks ran near five-year lows and prices spiked, is the reference case.
